BMW X5 M revealed ahead of LA Motor Show

BMW X5 performance edition will make its public debut at LA Motor Show and will arrive in UK early next year

  BMW M performance division has extended its line-up by giving the M treatment to X5. A second generation of high performance X5 will make its public debut at LA Motor Show next month. It is making its debut at LA Motor Show prior to opening its sales books in the UK in April next year. The all new M performance version of X5 will be paired with the twin-turbo 4.4-Litre engine. This BMW engine has direct injection fuel delivery system, same used by the M5 and M6 models. It means the new X5 version will come with great power and torque, hard acceleration capability and higher speeds with lower carbon emissions. It will offer enhanced fuel consumption to help the environment. The engine used in the second generation X5 M is capable of generating 564bhp at 6000rpm but due to the changes in induction system, it generates 52 Lb-Ft extra torque added to the previous 553 Lb-Ft. this 4.4 Litre engine is very capable with 17bhp extra power and 51lb-ft extra torque. It is similarly configured engine powered the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. It has the torque rating similar to 4.8 Litre V8 direct injection petrol engine. It offers 46bhp and 37lb-ft extra than the 5.5 Litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is used in the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG.   It has eight speed automatic transmission featuring start/stop technology and brake energy reproduction system. A multi-plate clutch system is used for all wheel capability however the system is capable of sharing out 100 per cent power either on the rear or front wheels. It is capable of doing zero to 62 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds with an improvement of 0.3 seconds from its first generation. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 miles per hour, although owner can ask to increase it up to 174mph.
