Finally! BMW Gives a Go Ahead for Sports Car Project With Toyota

A joint sports car project by BMW and Toyota is now underway

Finally BMW has decided to put an end to rumours and has given a green light to the project announced in collaboration with Toyota Japan. They are now moving forward with the joint project of sports car development. However, both automakers are not ready to disclose any details about the project yet, but rumours in the industry indicate that the project is now on the move. It is a Z4 based sports car that will take some details from Toyota Supra as well. In this joint project, BMW will blow life into its all-embracing carbon fibre capabilities to keep the car light weight and give it a strong body structure. Initially, the co-operatively developed sports car will use the rear wheel drive platform, but the all-wheel drive version will probably be offered after some time and it definitely would cost a whole lot extra than a standard version. The all new sports car will be offered in several trim levels and all trims will be optional. It is possible that the car will run on straight six BMW engine or it might use an electric Hybrid powertrain from Toyota. These powertrains consist of four cylinder engines and a potent electric motor. It is confirmed that both sports car name plates in the market will not share any design and body panel details and will make their public appearance in a very distinctive design. BMW is looking to offer a convertible retractable hard top however Toyota will likely introduce a Coupe version similar to its Supra models. The arrival of both sports cars is not confirmed yet but there is a chance that both versions will arrive sometime in 2016 or 2017.
